"It was nothing short of a catastrophic event when two
aircrafts hijacked by extremists, calling themselves Muslims,
were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, in
New York...The latest estimates put the death toll at just below
3,000, plunging the world in shock.....The Council on American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR) was amongst the first organizations to come
out forcefully and condemn the tragedy.
Or, were they destroyed when the planes crashed into the
towers under robotized control?
Conspiracy Plantet...the Alternative News and History Network said
the crashing of the three aircraft was done by robotic control.
An article by J. McMichael noted that the Northrop Gruman Global
Hawk, a robotized American military jet could have possibly been
used to bring the buildings down.
How were Muslims world-wide affected?
One of the immediate reactions of the tragedy was the action of
a few to shoot individuals suspected of being Muslims and or Arabs,
vandalize Mosques, threaten individuals, shouting verbal abuses
and insults and targeting Muslim women wearing the Hijab (head covering).
Why are Muslims being detained on a daily basis?
Former South Florida chapter president of the American Immigration
Lawyers Association, Mazen Sukkar was quoted as saying that its
simply racial profiling. Its like the Japanese interment all over
again, except they're not doing it publicly. They're doing it discreetly
and covertly. I think profiling is being accepted by the community
because it gives them a false sense of security.
Why did Amnesty International Accuse the U.S. of abusing
the civil rights of Muslims?
The US and Governments around the world have used the post-Sept.
11 war on terrorism to erode human rights and stifle political dissent.
In its annual state of the world report, the organization said emergency
anti-terrorist legislation and changes to trial and detention procedures
had contributed to an atmosphere of repression and undermined universal
principles of human rights.
Why are Muslims being deported after secret evidence was
used against them?
Mahvash Siddiqui wrote in 'Faith in Action' magazine that Muslims
by and large, are recent immigrants to the United States and many
have yet to secure citizenship and thus have mere residency status.
This still gives them the same rights in the criminal courts as
other Americans, however, unlike other Americans, they are also
subject to absolute power of the Immigration and Naturalization
Service.
How has Muslims reacted to the current arrest and detention
of their brethren?
The bottom line is that Muslims in South Florida are apprehensive
and fearful, most of them do not want to comment on anything for
fear of being arrested for one reason or another. Since Sept. 11,
2001, the Immigration and Naturalization Service has detained hundreds
of Muslims as part of far-reaching terrorist investigations.
Why is America Planning a War against Iraq?
President George Bush issued a stark warning to Iran, Iraq and
North Korea, accusing the three countries of attempting to build
weapons of mass destruction. The United States will not permit the
world's most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world's most
destructive weapons ...these enemies view the entire world as a
battlefield and we must pursue them wherever they are...
Is there a connection between 9/11 and the Palestinian
issue?
Three months ago, (April 2002) President Bush issued an ultimatum
to Ariel Sharon to withdraw forces from Palestinian territories
in the West Bank 'without delay'. At the end of June, with the Israelis
still there, he said he will 'call upon the Israelis as security
improves to allow more freedom of movement by the Palestinian people....the
warring cousins in the Middle East have so far failed to approach
their negotiations with the seriousness that they deserve, and when
they make such an attempt, those on both sides who wish to fan the
flames of hatred, conduct some incursion or suicide bombings that
set the peace approach way back.
What does the Patriot Act mean to Muslims and non-Muslims
alike?
The Government's power to pursue and arrest suspects has expanded
with the enactment of the Patriot Act, an anti-terrorism bill that
permits authorities to use information in intelligence-gathering
operations to make criminal cases. 'this is an unprecedented power
grab that is at odds with the Constitution' said Randall Marshall
of the American Civil Liberties Union in Florida.
Are the Courts being denied judicial oversight?
The Council on American-Islamic Relations CAIR and other organizations
and groups which have expressed deep concern over what is taking
place in a country known world-wide for its adherence to freedom
and liberty. One such measure is the approval by Attorney General
John Ashcroft for the Justice Department to listen in on the conversations
of lawyers with clients in federal custody, including people who
have been detained but not charged with any crime, whenever that
is deemed necessary to prevent violence or terrorism.
