"Local colour coded Qur'an a world first"
The Cape Town based Hafiz Academy & Qur'an Literacy Trust
has achieved a world first by publishing the Qur'an with colour
designated tajweed rules in the Arabic text.
The colour coded Qur'an is intended primarily for the hifz student
to facilitate and enhance the reading of the Qur'an with tajweed.
However, it can also be used by other madrasah students, the researcher
or even the reader who reads purely for devotional purposes. Anything
that aids the correct reading of the Qur'an is rewarding, both educationally
and spiritually.
The Qur'an is produced by colour coding the various rules where
a particular tajweed rule applies with a different colour.
As such the Qur'an is ideally suited for the students of hifz who
will easily recognise the various rules of tajweed.
- For the teacher it resolves the time consuming task of marking
the tajweed rules manually in each student's Qur'an.
- For the student the rules are accessible, clearly demarcated,
and the colours serve as a constant reminder.
For instance, a colour has been assigned to a rule whereupon tajweed
must be observed.
In the case of the ikhfa, the colour blue represent the rule,
in the case of qalqala, red is used to represent the rule.
This colour coding of the tajweed rules along with the rule of
classification at the bottom of the page for quick reference constitutes
the most significant feature of this publication.
The ease with which these rules can be accessed and the simplicity
with which the basic rules of tajweed are explained renders this
publication a much needed one.
Other useful features of this Qur'an are the page numbers, the
surah number and the juz number, which are all rendered in English
to aid those who are not familiar with Arabic numerals.
Furthermore, there is also the demarcation of the maqra, particularly
intended for those who are committing the Qur'an to memory.
Like the Qur'an published by the Waterval Islamic Institute, this
Qur'an includes a more detailed compilation of the basic tajweed
rules, incorporating the colour coding system, which further simplifies
the tajweed rules for the reader.
